Climate Change and Social Vulnerabilities
The project maps and analyzes urban dynamics and landscapes using GIS as a strategy for reducing climate change risks and social vulnerabilities in the Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Region.
Overview
The project aims to map and analyze urban dynamics and landscapes using GIS as a strategy for reducing climate change risks and social vulnerabilities in the Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Region. The project considers land use mosaics, open space systems, urban afforestation, and the perceptions of young people and children about public spaces in vulnerable territories.
The outcomes may subsidize guidelines for innovation and improvement of public policies focused on the specific impact of phenomena that cause climate disasters in urban areas (heat islands, extreme rainfalls, landslides, and flooding). The integration of the research team and civil society, involving the population and municipal technicians in the debates, will help promote the dissemination of results.
