This project frames energy as a catalyst for Gaza's post-war recovery, proposing a decentralized Energy Island complex integrating renewables, desalination, and food systems in Rafah as a scalable prototype for resilience and sustainability.
Overview
This thesis-based project explores Gaza’s post-war recovery through circular and decentralized infrastructure systems. Using research, master planning, and GIS spatial analysis, it proposes a scalable model for producing renewable energy in resource-rich coastal and marine areas and distributing it through networks that support inland urban environments. Framed by the Energy–Water–Food Nexus, Rafah in Gaza is presented as a coastal case, spatialized through an Energy Island prototype that integrates energy production, water desalination, and food systems. The project responds to contexts of large-scale destruction by envisioning infrastructure as a repeatable, long-term, and resilient recovery strategy.
