Heritage Garden for Urban Farming
Rehabilitation and operation of a historic garden surrounding a heritage building in the heart of Ramallah, transforming it into a vibrant hub for urban farming, community learning, and cultural exchange.
Overview
This project rehabilitates and activates a historic garden surrounding a heritage building in central Ramallah. It transforms the site into an accessible urban farming and learning hub for farmers, youth, women, and the wider community. Through workshops, training programs, summer activities, and small markets, the project promotes sustainable agriculture, environmental awareness, and income generation. The design combines adaptive reuse, productive landscapes, and low-tech sustainability systems such as rainwater harvesting, composting, and solar energy. The project is co-shaped with local agricultural knowledge and community participation, positioning heritage as a living, productive resource and offering a replicable model for sustainable urban development in Palestine.
