Schools Beyond Books
Reimagining school campuses as living laboratories for sustainable living. Rooted in a learning-by-doing pedagogy, students learn sustainability by transforming their campuses into examples of environmental stewardship and circular economy in action.
Overview
Schools Beyond Books reimagines school campuses as laboratories for sustainable living. This cyclical model not only demonstrates efficient resource use but also empowers young people to become custodians of local change, blending environmental literacy with leadership and civic responsibility.
Recycled greywater irrigates kitchen gardens; the produce feeds mid-day meals; kitchen waste is composted to nourish the soil again- closing the loop between learning and living. Through sustainability audits, co-design, and participatory stewardship, students become active agents of change. Rooted in a learning-by-doing pedagogy, it enables students to learn sustainability by practicing it – transforming their campuses into tangible examples of environmental stewardship and circular economy in action.

Community Engagement
We channelled students’ natural curiosity toward their built and natural environments by introducing a sustainability theme through tactile activities. The projects’ circular model helped students connect different sustainability practices and develop a holistic understanding of everyday environmental responsibility.
