Architecture of Belonging
Architecture of Belonging Studio reframes residual urban spaces as opportunities for sustainable and inclusive transformation.
Overview
Architecture of Belonging Studio reframes residual urban spaces as opportunities for sustainable and inclusive transformation. In Florianópolis, Brazil, students investigate how neglected sites can host hybrid programs that respond to indigenous cultural needs and histories while rethinking heritage and environmental contexts. The studio questions conventional notions of productivity, instead celebrating cultural hybridity. Indigenous voices help shaping design agendas and redefine how residual spaces can strengthen identity, equity, and resilience. Developed as a two‑trimester master studio in architecture, Architecture of Belonging combines research and analysis in the first phase with design experimentation in the second, fostering global‑local learning through international collaboration.
